Editing a page

To change a page that already exists, click the "Edit" button on the bottom of the page to bring up the page editor. Wikidot uses a markdown system to format pages. The buttons at the top of thee edit box make it easy to create simple formatting like headings, lists, links etc. You can also use the Quick Reference page for reference on styling.

In general, unless a page is very short, you should take advantage of the Table of Contents functionality by using the headings to separate page sections which will auto populate in the Table of Contents at the top of a page.

Creating a new page

Create a new page using the navigation bar at right. Type the desired title (this is the web address title) in the empty box under "Create a Page" and click the New Page button. Do this from the section in which the page belongs, and it will automatically be categorized properly!

If you create a new page and it does not show up where you expect/want in the Navigation sidebar or the home page lists, you can change the page "Parent" page as follows:

  • Parent: Click "Options" and then "Parent" at the bottom of the page and enter the page immediately above in the desired hierarchy. If you're not sure, navigate to the "parent" page and check the browser navigation bar (e.g. for a new piece of equipment, parent is "equipment:home")

In general, unless a page is very short, you should take advantage of the Table of Contents functionality by typing "[[toc]]" at the top of a new page or clicking the "TOC" button at the top of the editor. Then use the headings styles to separate page sections and the table of contents will auto-populate.
